Translating Pain is my graduation project for the Bachelor of Visual Design at LUCA School of Arts, awarded the Jury Prize and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
The VR experience explores how chronic pain can be translated into sound and visuals through data sonification and visualization. Using data derived from my sister Nina's daily experience with pseudoachondroplasia and chronic pain, personal feelings and physical sensations are transformed into an immersive audiovisual environment.
The project was driven by a desire to better understand and communicate experiences that cannot be directly perceived by others. By combining virtual reality, sonification, and data visualization, Translating Pain explores empathy, accessibility, and alternative ways of representing complex human experiences.
